KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INSURANCE

MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR LIFE

Remarks by Donald Krolak, Insurance General Agent

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month.  To help educate consumers about the need for and value of adequate life insurance protection, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) has published the following five facts.  These statistics are certainly worth considering.

Fact 1:  Nearly three-fourths of North Americans agree that life insurance is the best way to protect against premature death of the primary wage earner.

Fact 2:  Twenty-four million households have no life insurance protection at all.  Almost one third of adults have no life insurance protection.

Fact 3:  Forty-four percent of all households either don’t own life insurance and believe they should, or own life insurance and believe they need more.  Among those that already own some life insurance, 40 percent believe they don’t have enough.

Fact 4:  One-fourth of primary wage earners feel they do not have a plan in place to provide a decent standard of living for their family if they died tomorrow.  Twelve percent of families would immediately have trouble meeting everyday living expenses and another 15 percent would have difficulty keeping up after several months.

Fact 5:  People would like to discuss life insurance with a qualified professional agent.  They believe that buying life insurance is an important and complex financial decision.  Half find it difficult to decide how much to buy, and 43 percent worry about making the wrong decision.

I’d like to meet with you in your home, at your convenience.  I’ll work with you to make sure your family is protected.  As a brother Knight you can trust, I’ll take the stress and worry out of the buying decision.

STATE ADVOCATE CHARLES H. CLARK INTRODUCED

Thanked the Knights, Councils and the Chapter for our support for him as a State Officer.  He said that he really feels at home at our Chapter meeting!  Charlie urged all our members and councils to make a big effort to get every council to meet the goal of 100% membership in the Fr. McGivney Guild.  Our prayers will hasten the day he is elevated to Sainthood.  He will reserve the rest of the 30 pages of his single spaced speech for the banquet this evening. J

PROTECT MARRIAGE

by passing the CALIFORNIA MARRIAGE PROTECTION ACT on November 4th.  The California Catholic Conference of Bishops has called upon the Knights of Columbus to do everything possible to support this Act.

Our Chapter has been asked to schedule a Culture of Life/Protect Marriage Campaign Workshop.  Contact Marie Widmann, State-wide Liaison.

909/393-9498 or ProLifeCathMins@SBDiocese.org .

The Supreme Council has just announced a donation of $1Million to the campaign.  We are asked to join in supporting the campaign with our donations.

FORMS 185 AND 365 ARE DUE

Form 185 notifies State and Supreme Councils the names and data about all Council Officers.  It was due July 1st, and most of our councils have complied, but a few have not.

Form 365 was due August 1st and lists all the council committee chairmen and their data.  This is for Supreme and State so the chairmen can receive the information they need to do their job.

Grand Knights:  Make sure your councils get these forms sent in to State and Supreme ASAP.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

Serving Those Who Serve

The Knights Columbus could not be more engaged and supportive of the

mission of  service to Veterans.

More than 300,00 copies of a unique prayer book are now in the hands of U.S. servicemen and women thanks to the Knights of Columbus. Armed with the faith: A catholic Handbook for Military Personnel is a 64-page waterproof, tear proof booklet featuring traditional prayers, devotions, hymns and more. The Order underwrote the costs of this publication, printed it available free of charge to military personnel through arrangement with Archdiocese for military Services, USA. Its a good resource for anyone, but especially deployed military personnel who might find themselves in harm’s way or in a difficult circumstances “said Jesuit Father Daniel Sweeney”, The Handbooks editor and member of Georgetown University Council 6375 in Washington D.C. Father Sweeney is a chaplain with the Air Force Reserve. Copies of Our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson Book A CIVILZATION of LOVE are also being distributed to our service men.

A thank you for those who bring items such as books, toiletries items for the Vets is greatly appreciated. Do not forget to bring something to the meeting. In addition, those who have contributed wheel chairs to support the Vets. Condit Parsons just did that at the last chapter meeting after winning the Lotto drawing. Thanks Condit Parsons. Thanks to James Donaker for sitting at the Wheel chair Table and collecting the money. Approximate $500.00 was taken in. Again, thanks for your Support of the Supreme Veterans program

Ministry at Mule Creek California State Prison
By
Joseph R Matthews

Past Grand Knight, Council # 1849

Approximately 18 months ago while still ministering to the California Youth facility at Preston in Ione, California, I decided to see if I could expand this ministry and so I contacted the Catholic Chaplin at Mule Creek State Prison, also in Ione California, which houses up to fourteen hundred inmates, to see if I could be of assistance to him in his duties as Chaplin to the Catholic inmates. Since I am retired, I have time available to devote to this cause. I was surprised to see that Chaplin Father Diago Baptista, who is also a Knight, is more then just the Catholic Chaplin, he also helps serve the spiritual life of many other Christians housed within the prison walls of Mule Creek.  Father Baptista serves three distinct prison yards, which are based upon inmate security requirements and there is a chapel in each yard. My internship required security and background checks and a written exam to finally be regularly admitted for security clearance without X-Ray. Currently Father has me conduct a weekly Bible Study program in the  “B” yard (which may mean “best behaved” inmates for me). I have between 3 and 8 inmates at each session, some are “lifers” Sometimes there are just Catholics and sometimes we have a mixture of Protestant and Catholics. I am overjoyed with the attendance and interaction with the inmates. They are well behaved, respectful and very inquisitive and want to learn, which we all do together. Currently we are studying Paul’s letter to the Corinthians I and II. God be praised
